How to sell Ghanaian products to customers in the UK and USA
By Queen Sika · Updated
Your easiest buyers abroad are Ghanaians in the UK, USA and Europe who miss home products or buy gifts for family. Start with them before chasing strangers.
Who buys Ghanaian products abroad
Diaspora buyers search for food items, shea and black soap, beads, fabric and fashion, and gifts they can send to family in Ghana. The gift option is often easier: they pay from abroad and you deliver inside Ghana — no international shipping.
Steps to your first order abroad
Step 1
Pick products that travel
Light, non-perishable, not fragile. Check the destination country's import rules for food and cosmetics.
Step 2
Show prices clearly
Show the cedi price and say shipping is quoted separately, so buyers are not surprised.
Step 3
Offer a deliver-in-Ghana gift option
Many diaspora buyers want to send something to mum. You deliver locally; they pay online.
Step 4
Agree shipping before payment
Get a courier quote for the weight first, then add it to the total. Never absorb unknown costs.
Step 5
Post where the diaspora is
TikTok and Facebook groups for Ghanaians abroad. Use "Ghana" and the city (London, Houston) in captions.
Trust: the real problem with selling abroad
The biggest barrier is not shipping. It is trust. Buyers abroad have been scammed by sellers who took money and disappeared. Sellers have been scammed by buyers who received goods and refused to pay.
My rules, from working with sellers every week:
- Payment before delivery, always. The customer pays the business owner first, so the business owner is never scammed.
- State your packing rules, delivery times and return policy on your website. A buyer who sees 'delivery in 72 hours' and a clear return policy stops begging for reductions and starts trusting you.
- Every seller packs and ships differently — that is fine. What matters is that your own rules are written where buyers can read them before they pay.
This is why we built verification into Content to Sales. When a business joins the community, we work hand in hand with them. We get to know the business is real, we investigate, we collect reviews, and only then do they get the verified badge on their page.
So when someone abroad wants to buy from a Ghanaian business, they can check whether that business is verified on Content to Sales first. The badge tells the buyer the business is real. Payment-first protects the seller. Together, both sides are safe.
A professional page does the talking for you: clear prices, stated delivery times, written policies and a verified badge. That is what turns a stranger abroad into a paying customer.
